Starview: The Box – Channels Missing
This post contains a channel dump file and pdf document that nicely lists all the channels available as of the 28th June 2008. Some people have been reporting that they cannot receive several channels such as Channel 4, E4, E4+1, Sky 1, Sky 2, MTV plus a good few more. This is because the frequencies have changed for those channels. You need to download the attached rar and upload the .bin file to your starview box using the GTRomLoader program. This is my personal preference for how the channels should be laid out so feel free to rearrange them using the channel editor (available via a google search).

This is the list I made, I think it looks quite nice. You might want to print it out and leave it beside your TV. Its available as a high quality PDF in the RAR Archive above.
Update (29/Nov/2008): In Dublin do a manual scan on 339500hz freq, also enable network scan [thanks Steve]. This will give you all the stations. I will come back in a few days with the latest channel dump file as its coming up to Christmas and I would not be able to sleep at night knowing people are being deprived of their beloved stations.

Hi,
You can install the .BIN files using the following guide:

The only change you need to make is this; after you load the .BIN file into the GTRomLoader program Select the “Channel Data File” option before clicking “Download”. That should give you back all the channels.
The file I have provided will only work for Cable in Dublin, Ireland.

Alan: This file is only for “The Box” not “The Box Super” so I would not try that.
There is however another solution to this problem. You can go into the menu and select Factory Restore, Then when you are presented with the instilation menu select your network “N*L”, and proceed to do a Automatic Scan. This should give you back all your channels.
Then all you need to do is enter the menu and type “1570″ to enter the secret menu and turn “Key EMU” to on. This will allow you to view the channels.

i am new at looking into this starview but do you need anything to get the channels such as a basic sky package or internet ect.

I still do not get some channels (i.e. RTE, LivingTV)
It says “scrambled channel” for a few senconds. Then some glitchy sound and then nothing.
I downloaded again the firmware (thebox_H20071015_454eE_api.bin), reset to default and rescanned the channels, but RTE and some other does not appear anymore.
Any advice?

Yes, I did.
When I select one of those channels, let’s say RTE One, I can see the banner with the current and next program, but not picture or sound at all. If I press INFO on the remote I can see the description of the current program broadcasted !?#@*%
The weirdest: I can’t see Living but I can Living+1.
Can it be they are working on my area cables? It’s more then a month though.

I did the channel pack above but now i can only see 35 channells in total the EMU key is off, anyone any ideas on what is wrong?

I uploaded the bin file to the box but now i can only get 34 channels most of which are the music channels. Any ideas what is going wrong?

Hello David,
1. I have loaded “thebox_H20071015_454eE_api.bin”
When I attempt to use SVCE 1044 to load your cdf it appears to download but I can see no FAVs when I go back to TV.
2. If I use SVCE 1044 and upload the cdf from my “Thebox” after a full scan and then edit my favs etc and attempt to download it I get an error message.
Any idea what I’m doing wrong??
3. Is there an instruction doc. for the new features in 454?

David, Since I posted this comment I have stumbled onto the solution which involves using the “theboxconverter” programme.
I found it by nosing around in the 4shared.com site.
Is there an instruction doc. for the new features in 454 to do with FAVs?

Hi Dave, I’m missing all the channels on the 394250 freq for the last 2 or 3 months now I would like to get them back i’ve tried auto scan,manual scan and factory settings all to no avail so i don’t know what to do at all now.

Hi Im having awful trouble with this box, just went bout 2 months ago and cant gt it back no mattr what I do.
Tried factory reset, but it wont find any channels at all

Do exactly what it says in the 4th comment. Make sure you select your network before you start the scan. Also make sure you are conected directly to an offican N*L wall socket.

I have downloaded your Zip file. But How am i suppose to apply the .Bin file to the box. I know you have mentioned GTRomLoader program . where do I get this program? How do I apply it to the box? (APOLOGIES for if the questions are silly)
If I apply your 4th comment above – (go back to factory settings and apply the code and so On) would that resolve my problem?
Just for your information I am in dublin and connected to NTL/Chorus.

Yes, Comment 4 will fix your problem. Its just your stations will be in a random order, not sorted according to the pdf I have made available. My recomendation would be to go with comment 4.

I’ve got the StarView 3 Box Super, running on NTL, Dublin. I’ve uploaded the NTLDub_28062008.bin using the GTRom software, I’ve now got about 130 channels, most of which I didn’t have previously, so thanks for you tips!
Just one quick Q, I don’t have RTE1, Net2, TV3..Am I missing a step?

I have a box in Dubland and tried the “menu” “1570″ and switched EMU to “ON”. This still gave no joy on the missing channels. I went into to “Channel edit” and noticed that there were two or three entries on the channels which were missing. I checked, using highlight and “OK”, which one had a picture and then deleted the duds. It seems as if the box was confused by these spurious channels. The only problem is that I appear to have deleted BBC3 in the process and cannot pick it up by by auto install

Thanks for the file, Im living in dublin and we have the starview2 box but when i try to use your file i get the error that the model is not correct.
I have the right Null modem cable, GTrom Loader 4.00 and follow your directions but it keeps giving me that same error.
It is a genuine box
I have tried putting in the GCR 3510 showing in your picture in the guide http://www.davidmcgettigan.com/?p=88 but i still get the same error.

I have lost all channels on the BOX.My husband tried to tune in a station and everything got messed up.Reverting to factory settings doesn,t work.I’ve followed your 2nd answer but i can’t get into the secrt menu to put in 1570.I’m not even bothered about the lost channelsi.e ch 4 etc the sports channels are the big loss.heeeeeelp.

hi, I’ve just bought a starview 3 super box. when i try and enter the menu to restore the factory setting the 1570 password wont work. Is there another code that will get me in or am i screwed?

The password is “0000″. 1570 is to enter the hidden menu.

thanks, I did the restore factory settings bit, but no matter how many times i press the menu button and enter 1570 no ’secret menu’ appears. is there a knack to it or is there something really obvious i’m not doing right?

David, you’ve probably being asked this a million times but.. How do I get the hidden menu (The Box super).Above you mention to go to the Menu and enter 1570, when i do this nothing happens. I select menu, enter 1570 and menu widow doesn’t change.

If you have not yet flashed your box that is the problem. There is no hidden menu on the firmware that comes preinstalled on the box. You will need to update to the latest version of the “hacked” firmware. I have a guide here: Starview Flashing Guide

I believe there are two versions of “The Box: Super” and that they each require a different firmware to be installed.
Ver 7.09 is the most recent firmware available for your box. There is also Ver 6.01 for older versions of your box.
Apparently the newer “The Box: Super” has an extra output on the back.
They can both be downloaded here, click that link then The Box SUPER.

Just wondering if you can help.
My box has been working great until now.
When i turn it on, it stays on for about 10 seconds and then freezes and switches off, it restarts and then does the same again.
Can i fix this, any help greatly appreciated.

I have just purchased a starview 3 and downloaded the software to the box version 7.09 and tried your suggestions on comment 4 but nothing works, even going back to factory setting. It is showing what is on each station but I can’t access them. Went into secret menu and turned on EMU key. dont know what else I can do. Any suggestions you might have would be really appreicated. There is version 8 available. Upgrade to that. And secondly try leaving the box tuned to a single station for 2 – 3 mins BBC 1 is a good option. It should say updating. Let that go to 100% (sometimes it even goes higher than 100%, dont worry). Just leave it and see what happens.

I just got my Starview 3 today. However when I do an automatic scan, the system says FAILED for every frequency. Then when its finished, it says “0 programs found”. I have done this for all the networks. Do i need to download any software? Do you have any suggestions as your help would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to be having exactly the same problems as Steve-o. Got 2 boxes (Starview 3 The Box Super) and installed the latest firmware (v.8.0). Have tried a channel search on both of them but it fails each time and 0 programs are found. I have also tried manual searches but it would seem that neither box is detecting a signal. I know my signal is fine as my old box is still working fine. Could this be a problem with the firmware?(should I try an older version) or do you think there might be a fault with the tuner in the boxes?
Any help would be appreciated.

Where did u get the box Franco? I am still having the same problem with this box. Have been looking up different tutorials during the day but to no avail – Still tells me that it failed. Have tried about 3 different versions of the software.

Got a starview the box super, flashed it and am getting some but not all channels (i get some sports but not all such as setenta and no movies ethier). read comment 4 where it says select factory restore, clicked on restore factory settings and it said “delete or exit”. Dont want to lose all the channels and have to flash it again will this happen??

First of all, its very good of you to take time to help everyone with their problems!
Ive had a ’starview 2 : The box’ for about a year now. It has always worked fine. I have had to retune it every now and again but have never had to reflash it.
Tonight I turned it on and it wont go past the ‘The Box’ logo screen. It seems to freeze. There is nothing apart from a hyphen displayed on the LCD.
Any ideas ?

Its prob bad news if this is happening. This is usually due to overheating. Do you have a DVD player, VCR etc near the box? Try leaving it unpluged overnight and try it again in the morning.

Thanks for your help earlier, I turned the box off over night and it stopped freezing. However, now i seem to have another problem. The channels are constantly flickering and are unwatchable.
I updating the firmware to the newest firmware I could find. 451eE & then 454eE. Neither of these worked. I then tried to update with your channel dump, following the guide above. Some of the channels work, some dont….or am I missing something ?

Just to add the my last post. The vast majority of the channels are fine. It seems to be only Setanta Sports 1 and 2 and Setanta Ireland that arent working now. Im currently using firmware 450eE. Fireware 454. 452 & 453 didnt seem to be compatible with my box and I just got a black screen.

If you have chorus mmds the box you need is called “The box – T”, it on the other hand you have ntl mmds the box you need is “The Box”. Hope this helps.

Got the box super the other day and did all the necessary…emu on aoutomatic scan etc. I live in dublin and my basic cable has rte 1, 2 e4, living but the automatic scan didn seem to pick these up. These are basic channels for this area so why would the box not recieve them and is there anyway to find them and add them??

Bearing in mind that the above guide is not for your version of the box. The only thing that i can think of is make sure the wire is conected to the correct input and make sure you select the correct provider. Failing that, go and look for the frequencys that you need to scan. If you need them e-mail me (contact page) and ill show you where to go.

Hi David, I am thinking of getting a “Starview 3 The Box Super” for my bedroom, but we already have NTL digital downstairs. Would NTL be able to find out that I have a Starview box and prosocute me?
Also, does the starview 3 super box get all the digital channels that NTL digital would get?
Stephen said that his box is picking up basic Dublin channels like RTE and E4.
How would I fix that if it happened to me?

I was told to restore factory settings and now when I search for channels I still can find any. I think I have removed GT Loader and I can’t find the software anywhere. Just restore factory settings. Then scan. You dont need to re flash the device. Its only a soft reset, not a hard reset where all the firmware is put back to default.

Hi guys i recently purchased a few starview 3 boxes for friends and family but have a problem but only at one address doesnt matter what box i plug in at that addy but it wont recieve bbc1 bbc2 itv chan4 chan5 all other cable chans work fine on all boxes all other locations are fine boxes are connected split with virgin media boxes left in situe all have the latest firmware on and as i say its only at one addy but the telewest box at that place recieves nornmal chans ok — many thanks

I have the box super & MMDS N*L/U*C for the last 3 months.
I never got Sky S2 nor Set S2. Last week I noticed Set S1 was gone, it transpires U*C have canceled my subscription in error but I still get the signal via MMDS roof arial.
Should i Factory Restore as per your Note 4 and/or upgrade s/w to GTRom_Super_8.00e.exe?

I finally solved my problem with RTE1,2,tv3,tg4,e4 and some other.
You wont believe it.
To make a log story short, if the computer near the box is off I can watch those channels. If it’s on they disappear…
I guess it’s related to the AMD CPU frequency, but I still need time to do some test, all the cables should be shielded, so…

I restored the factory settings by mistake on my box.I then did an automatic scan on the box and it found 92 channels and displayed all their correct names(whereas b4 it didnt have the names).However the channels are not displaying.Please help.Thanks!!!

I bought an starview box 3 today. Autoscanned it with N*L cable line. While I tried to view the channels I found most of the channels are showing “bad or scrambled channel” even for the freeview channels. My box has the version 7.08e with boot 8.00. I tried to flash it with version 8.00 but failed to flash. While I press 1570 after pressing menu, nothing i happened.
What should I do? I am a complete novice. I did all the hings above based on one my friends advice. However he failed as well and gave up at the end.
Can you help me pleeeeeeeeeease?

I recently bought a starview3 super box and when I tune it in to NTL Dublin im only getting a few stations.It scanned all them in but no picture or sound.I have all the epg coming up. I tryed reset factory settings and retune but it still the same.I have a Dreambox for some time now and no problems with that.I dont think I bought a clone. Can you help me please

Hi Dave,
I want to get “The Box”, we had S*y Digital until quite recently, before that we had N*L MMDS service, they left the aerial on the roof but my Mrs threw away the decoder and booster ages ago on one of her mad cleaning frenzies.
What do I need (besides The Box) to get setup properly for it.
Would S*y technicians have cut cable that N*L have put up? I ask cos I only see the 2 black cables through the wall that go into the back of the S*y box?

I have a “Box” for the last year or so which is working perfectly. I recently purcahsed a second “box Super”.My question is that on the older box the channels come is as 1,2,3,4,5 etc and the newer ones come in as 101,102,103, etc with a lot on channel 3000.i also cannot move the channels on the newer one. How can I change them into 1,2,3,4ect so that I can have the same format on both sets?

Hi dave, My provider is V, and today all my channels have gone. I tried doing factory restore and rescan, buts it isnt picking up any channels? (say no chanels found)
Can you suggest anything. Do you think my provider is playing around with the signal and i should try rescanning later.

had the problem with the channels missing, did a factory reset and they all show fine, i then downloaded your channel dump file but after it completes there are no channels found and i have to do a search again, is there anything i’m doing wrong. I’ve tried downloading the file i’ve searched for all the channels and also directly after a factory reset.

i got the box super today i already have one and thats loaded up fine the new one i got i loaded gtrom_super_6.00e on it went the secret menu put in the code and turned the emu on but it wont tune in any station no signal any chance of a bit of help

First of the site is great thanks, I have a starview 3 super box running from ntl connection in Galway boot version 8.00. The problem is 3 days ago 90% of the channels became scrambled even free ones tried restore factory settings and re-scan but no joy… any help would be great!

I recently installed a box-t, living in munster area. Worked perfect for 2 days then lost half the channels. Tried readjusting antenna but position it is in seems to be the best. Tried manually inputting frequencies again but still no joy.

I just got the Box Super, Star View 3, living in Cork, have Chorus/NTL in a MMDS area and am tryign to get the box to work. Once I do the automatic scan on NTL / Chorus / Chorus Cork all fail.Tried rebooting, setting the EMU to on, trying again but no joy. Any suggestions?

We have a StarView3 Super Box, flashed with verion 8, and we are missing the following channels: RTE1, NET2, TV3, TG4, ParmountComedy, E4, History Channel. Is there a solution to this? We have EMU is turned on and have used the latest file. We have tried manually setting the frequency and it doesn’t work either??

Hi, i have THE BOX, When i came to watch the the box some of the channels were missing i have tried scan 1570 thing an the EMU is on. When i go to go on a channel like MTV it says updating and never comes on? Do you know whats wrong??

I am having a similar problem to alot of people on this blog. I have tried the eurovox and Starview box, have done everything you have suggested already on this blog but there doesnt seem to be a signal for the channels on either box. I have tried both boxs in different houses with Chorus connection and it seem to work fine in those houses. I currently have chorus at the moment, do I need to get my connection cut off with them first before I can hook up the box? Any bit of help will do here cause I’m tearing my hair out at this stage………….arrrrrrrg…..I miss my soccer…..

Hi dave.I have “The Box” for the last year.I live in Tuam co.Galway and have a NTl MMDS service.Today the box is saying No signal.I did a factory reset but it wont find channels and wont leave the language menu to go back to main menu.
I am wondering if Ntl have stopped the signal to my house as I disconnected the UPC DVR I had with them when I got the Box.
also is there any way to use UPC mediabox I have with the box.ie(to reflash the mediabox or something like that)so I can record off the Box.

I have had “The Box” for about a year now with no problems. Auto scan so no need for regular codes etc. Yesterday I lost all channels except Setanta and RTE 1 & 2. System information on the box is API Ver:4.52e-E Boot Ver:7.0 14/08/2007.
Tried to restore to factory settings but still only have the 3 stations. I am on NTL based in Dublin. Have not been able to find the secret menu to input 1570 code.
Can you offer some advice please for a non techie !! Kids missing Disney and I am missing Sports.

I’m having the same problem as Reg has described in his post on Dec.1st with starview 3 the box super.I’ve tried the manual scan with the 339500hz freq, also enabling network scan as suggested by you above, but I just keep getting the info bar stating ‘updating data’ and the percentage rises from 0% to 250% repeatedly, but no sign of any channels?

Hi Dave, thank you very much for all of the above – i have read them but unfortunately nothing is working in my case – including comment 4.
I have the Box Super (v 8)and the channels have disappeared besides rte 1, the city channel and setanta. I have tried the manual and automatic scans, key emu is turned on, channel provider of ntl is selected…the channels are either totally black or have a channel updating sign 0% or bad or scrambled channel on the screen…
unfortunately i cannot seem to get into factory settings as when i put the code 0000 in it just tells me to press exit or delete or menu and gets me back to the main menu screen.
I have noted that you mentioned downloading from the pc to the box super?? – If this is what is required could you point me to where there are more detailed instructions as i am some what of a virgin when it comes to that stuff.

I bought the box a while back and was told i would recieve 130 channels i am on the chorus cable in kildare and when i auto tuned i only got 13 channels so i did a manual scan i now have 81 channels from frequencies 220.750 to 500.750 would you know the rest of the codes to get the rest of the channels

hi dave,i have recently bought a starview 4 box.
it works fine on one tv and i am ahappy with all the channels i have.
but i do have a problem with the tv i want to use it on.
the super box 4 is doing all sorts of switching with my tv(digimate ltv-3204h)
is it possible to change my frequncys on my tv or my digibox so they dont affect each other

I have being using the box super for the last few months successfully. However, we changed our tv to a sony bravia and we can only get half the channels now. We reset the box & reflashed it but to no avail. When we switch back to the old tv, we get all the channels again!

hows agoin dave.be great if u cud help me.just moved house from one part of dublin to another.my box super was workin fine in old house.then when moved its comin up no signal on the box.tryed 1570 turned on emu re scanned channells but to no avail.n..l came out to the house to put bband and tv 4 us cud they b blocking something on me.wud really appreciate ur help thanks paddy.

The word on the street is N*L has finally decided to get the finger out and do something about their loss of earnings caused by the Boxes. They are moving all channels to a new encryption but because it’s a new system they are only changing a couple of channels at a time to ensure that it does not mess up legit customers (All premium channels are now gone, Sky sports next, then all domestic channels). So sorry folks but in the coming days/weeks you will see the end of all Boxes. Suppose, I did get my moneys worth of the last couple of years but guess I’ll now have to get on to Sky & order my HD+ for €85 per month

There will be no new codes. Nagra 3 is the new security standard throughout Europe and it has not been cracked. If it does ever get cracked in the future it will be a new hardware crack rather than software meaning that your existing box will never work.
As Orby says, we’ll all just have to start paying although I don’t agree with the thieves remark as Boxes are perfectly legal and people were only exploiting a loophole in the system

Lost signal for internet & t.v., contacted telewest who informed me i had a downstream lock & engineer required to come out, Removed starview box & put in telewest box. Engineer came out yesterday internet back on t.v back on, put starview box back in but only has freeview channels, no movies ,no sports,cartoons & music etc. Paying channels still in order but just a blank screen,please help.

I purchased a starview (the box) just over a year ago and put it in my living room ad everything has been great. Now I was looking to get one for my bedroom.
I have my TV in there with in build freeview and an aerial plugged into the TV which enables me to watch all the freeview channels. Now if I purchased another Starview box could I just set that up in my bedroom and watch the channels or would I need a splitter or something else. Or would another box be more suitable (eurovox etc)

I have a the box super usb tried to switch it on today but it keeps knocking its self off. The Box tries to set about 4 or 5 times them nothing happens and it switches its self any ideas.

hi david really need help, had a starview box for ages on telewest the box has gone of ’scrambled or bad channel’ many times but always solved the problem by manually entering new codes found on chatterbox, but box went down and checked my codes but were still there in nagravision so i did a reset factory settings and re-scanned my box, and it found 368 channels as per usual but instaed of the channels being named they were all channel 3000 no names and all randomly placed through my guide and the channels ive got with names only a few are differrent i.e cbeebies is channel name but television x is on HELP!!!!!!! reset factory settings and scanned in many times after but same!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi David,
I have one of the old Starview Box Supers.
I’m based in Ireland and as far as Im aware NTL here have blocked the use of the starview box so you cannot avail of free stations.
What I would like to do is use the Starview box to watch my regular TV stations that I pay NTL for.
Do you know anything I can try?
I have reset the box and rescanned multiple times but makes no difference.
I only see RTE 1, Setanta Ireland, and a few other crap stations.

Hi Dave.
I have the same problem as Andy. A few nights ago all of my channels became scrambled. I did the factory reset and followed all the instructions to reset it. I did the automatic scan and when it had finished, all my channels became 3000 channels. Also channels like BBC1 and BBC2 are not what they should be. Any way of getting the channel names back to what they should be?

Hi David,
I have a digivox-t. It works fine but I am only getting a quality of 50% even though my level is 100%. I can practically see the mast about 2km away. How do I improve the quality. Is it down to the height/vertical or would better quality cable improve this? Also some channels pick up their names and some just have numbers. Is this down to the quality. Do I just rename the channels manually using the box or is there a better way?
